La Nucia is a municipality in the comarca of Marina Baixa, Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain. It borders the municipalities of Altea, Callosa d’En Sarrià, Benidorm, Polop and L’Alfàs del Pi. La Nucia is located in a fruit valley between Benidorm and Callosa d’En Sarrià, 3 km from the coast of Altea.
The urban center is on a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, 51 km north of Alicante and 8 km north of Benidorm. The municipality includes the following urbanization: Barranco Hondo, Coloma, Bello Horizonte, Panorama, and El Tossal. La Nucia overlooks fields of fruits and vegetables and has become a popular place for expats to live as it is so close to the coast yet quiet enough not to be affected by the hordes of tourists who descend to the Costa Blanca during the school holidays.

Today, La Nucia is the fastest growing city in Pais Valencia. According to Enric Pastor, the press officer of the municipality, the reason for La Nucia’s popularity is to be found in these facts: “Pueblo´n has low crime, good schools, well-developed health care, very advanced sports and cultural activities and good coverage for helping the elderly.” “We have two main groups of people moving here,” says Enric Pastor: “young couples around 30 and older from 65. We do what we can for people to thrive here, ”he says. And it’s true.
In the same ten years, when the population doubled, the municipality has built a new health station, a new police station, a new youth center, a large concert hall and a large, modern sports facility. Plus they have renewed the old town and built several centers around the urbanizations. Mayor Bernabé Cano has been responsible for this entire development of La Nucia.
Things to see in La Nucia
The 4,448-square-foot Auditorio y Centro Cultural del Mediterráneo cultural center from 2007 is probably La Nucia’s most striking structure. The theater hall itself is 770 square meters and has room for 600 spectators.
The Cultural Center, which houses a number of departments in addition to the municipal library, is connected to a complex called Espacios Culturales de La Nucia, which also contains the outdoor auditorium Auditorio de las Noches.

A short drive from the center of La Nucia is the mountain Monte del Calvario. From the top there are fantastic views of La Nucia municipality, Altea and the Mediterranean.
Fuente la Favara is a beautifully landscaped park with a large selection of plants and trees that are typical of the Mediterranean area. The facility also has an artificial waterfall. Fuente la Favara is a very popular excursion destination on Sundays when many families pack their picnic baskets and spend the afternoon there.
Centro Juventil – the youth center in La Nucia is with its 500 square meters is one of the largest in the Valencia region. A number of concerts, courses, theater performances and the like are arranged.
La Nucia’s 18th century main church, dedicated to la Inmaculada Concepción, is the municipality’s foremost religious structure.

Valencia Airport ( VLC ) also known as Manises Airport, is the tenth-busiest Spanish airport in terms of passengers and second in the region after Alicante. It is situated 8 km (5.0 mi) west of the city of Valencia, in Manises. The airport has flight connections to about 20 European countries and 5.79 million passengers passed through the airport in 2016.
A new regional terminal, expanded car parking facilities and apron area have been recently constructed in time for the 2007 America’s Cup. The runway has been also lengthened by 50 m (160 ft). The airport has one terminal and one runway. The former runway 04/22 is not in use and has no ILS but has a helipad at the southwestern end.
It is the main base of Iberia’s regional carrier Air Nostrum. Irish low-cost airline Ryanair used the airport as a hub since 2007 but decided to close it in November 2008 following a dispute over subsidies by the airport authorities. Since then the airline has continued to operate out of Valencia but as a relatively large destination airport, and not a base.
